Hi folks,
Two days ago, I came across this pair of flycatchers at the locust tree hotspot at Neehoshe Reservoir. They were atop a bare tree snag, hawking insects and returning to their perch. It was windy at the time.
At first, I thought they might be Olive-sided Flycatchers, because of the noticeable vest. But then their very yellow belly and spiky crest led me to consider Great-created Fkycatcher, but the pale throat and non-rufous tail seemed to rule that out.
They don’t look like empids to me, but maybe that’s just the wind causing their posture to be different from what I’d expect. They seem to bright to be wood-pewees.
Could they be Eastern Phoebes, with crest feathers spiked by the wind?
Are they an entirely different species?
