Subject: [Mendobirds] White-eyed Vireo
This morning the White-eyed Vireo continues near the end of the driving road on the north side of Big River. I was there from pre-dawn in the middle of the thicket on the north side of the creek. Around 7:30 I believe I had it vocalizing within 20 feet of me, for about two minutes, but it would not show itself. My MERLiN app did not tecognize that call note. At 9 AM I gave up and was walking to my vehicle by the restrooms when I pished one last time. The bird immediately popped up into a willow 15 feet off the ground. Luckily I had a small window to look through and got my binocs on it. Roger Adamson arrived to take pics but we could not coax it out, but it did vocalize with typical calls. This was only about 100’ west of the restrooms.
