Subject: [Tweeters] Marymoor Park (Redmond, King Co.) 2026-08-10
Tweets - It was another super-quiet day at the park, with long
stretches without a single bird to hear or see. The day was otherwise
okay, with temps in the low 60's, but building overcast. It seems
that virtually all of the "summer" birds are gone, without much in the
way of returning birds or migrants:

Highlights:
Band-tailed Pigeon - Two in a quick flyby. Quite possibly Last
of Year, as they tend to clear out of Marymoor after mid-September
Mourning Dove - A single bird flew south over the East Meadow.
Only our 2nd sighting of the year
American Coot - One from the Lake Platform. First of Fall (FOF)
Double-crested Cormorant - Two flying near the lake (FOF)
Green Heron - One at the Rowing Club pond
Cooper's Hawk - Juvenile, seen a couple of times. Last seen
kerfuffling with American Crows in the Pea Patch
Red-breasted Sapsucker - One near the heronry (FOF)
Merlin - Seen a couple of times; quite a dark bird
Evening Grosbeak - One heard flying near the mansion. First of
Year (FOY), though we've thought we heard some before
Savannah Sparrow - Two at the Viewing Mound looked bigger and
brighter than our nesting birds
Lincoln's Sparrow - One at the Viewing Mound (FOF)
Western Tanager - One calling from SW of the mansion at the start
of the walk. Probably Last of Year by dates

We had NO swifts, flycatchers, vireos, swallows, or Swainson's Thrush,
and our only warblers were COMMON YELLOWTHROAT and a couple of
NORTHERN YELLOW WARBLER.

Misses today included Hooded Merganser, Vaux's Swift, Red-tailed Hawk,
American Barn Owl, Willow Flycatcher, Barn Swallow, Orange-crowned
Warbler, and Black-throated Gray Warbler.

We did have one special sighting: we were joined by Lee Crawford who
is in the area on a brief visit from NYC. She was a Marymoor regular
for many years. Great to see her again.

For the day, just 52 species.
