Subject: [ia-bird] Black-billed Cuckoo - Johnson County
Birders, this morning in Hickory Hill Park in Iowa City I had a long look at
what I believe was a Black-Billed Cuckoo (a lifer for me), perhaps a
juvenile because it didn't appear to have a red eyering. Its bill was dark,
and the throat seemed buffy. Chris Edwards and James Huntington saw it too,
and we had some discussion about whether it might have been a juvenile
Yellow-Billed. I got some shots on my phone, and I think they show small
white tips on the 2 outer tail feathers, which says Black-Billed to me. We
never got a very good look at its tail. Photos attached. I welcome
comments.
