Hi all,
We had the best birding of the season on the 7th with warblers, tanagers and orioles in our yard. Why? In the morning there were squalls just offshore, complete with waterspout, which made birds put down at our traps rather than risk a trans-Gulf journey. Birds put down in the early morning hours.
Today, in spite of rain along the coast in the early a.m. hours, no migrants in GB. This rain, closer to the mainland, probably forced birds down in the interior away from the coast.
Migration and fallouts can be fickle. It's weather, weather, weather.
