Subject: [cobirds] Chico Basin Ranch Banding Station Report-Bird Conservancy of the Rockies-September 9, 2026
A strange day in the Olive Grove. The day was quiet and the wind picked up
@9 AM a few birds appeared to drop in. Thirteen bird species were captured
including three new species for the season-Red-shafted Flicker,
Yellow-rumped Warbler, and Hermit Thrush. A Black-and-white Warbler was
observed near the banding building. A couple birders spotted a Lewis'
Woodpecker on telephone pole near HQ pond. Always something interesting on
the ranch to observe. The banding station area finally received some rain
last evening. YAY! Plants were turning crispy.
*36 New Banded Birds*
Wilson's Warbler- 21
Orange-crowned Warbler- 1
Unknown Yellow-rumped Warbler- 1- had visible appearance of Audubon's X
Myrtle Subspecies
Dusky Flycatcher- 1
N. House Wren- 2
Red-breasted Nuthatch- 1
Cassin's Vireo- 2
Lincoln's Sparrow- 1
Green-tailed Towhee- 1
Hermit Thrush- 3
Red-shafted Flicker- 2

*3 Recaptures- birds banded this season and captured again*
N. House Wren- gained .1 grams
Swainson's Thrush- gained 3 grams since yesterday.
Brown Thrasher- stayed the same weight

The Banding station will be open tomorrow through Saturday from sunrise
until @ 11:30 AM. Please stop by and share your sightings with us. If
