We had a lovely evening at Fisherman's Paradise watching Great Blue Herons
yesterday evening with around 33 people in attendance. If you missed the
event, that will continue to be a good spot to look for Great Blue Herons
throughout the fall. Other highlights of the evening included a small flock
of Cedar Waxwings feeding over the fish hatchery and frequent calls and
fly-bys of three Bald Eagles.
Notably, the fish hatchery personel have set up what appears to be a heron
deterant system. There is a tall pole next to the hatchery with a roving
green laser light. The light swings around in what appears to be a random
pattern across the hatchery and trees. And it did appear to cause a number
of the herons to fly down stream after sunset. So if you go visit around
sunset, keep an eye out for how the laser impacts the herons roosting!
