Weather: Socked in by morning cloud cover with clearing in the afternoon to variable skies for the remainder of the day. Winds retained a westerly component all day and were light but persistent. Temps 55-64F.
Raptor Observations: Raptors turned on as soon as the sun emerged around 1 pm, with a steady push of broad-wings in small 'squadrons' of up to 14, small kettles with a few sharpies and eagles mixing in, and two harriers to bookend the three-hour push. A fraction of the past days' counts, the afternoon hours were a welcome change from the first five hours, in which only two migrants were noted.
Non-raptor Observations: Ravens (14), resident turkey vultures, and local red-tailed hawks mixed in with migrant raptors. Barred Owl called late in the day; Blue-headed Vireo, Pine Warbler, Canada Goose (4) and other expected local and migrant birds. Ruby-throated Hummingbirds: 4/46; Monarchs: 14/160
Predictions: Winds shift east and south, which may shut down migration for all but a few eager ospreys and peregrines.
