Subject: [NHBirds] 7 Common Nighthawks - Franklin Falls
Back on September 2, I reported that we only needed 30 more ticks to reach 7,000 for the season.  On 3 September we added 10, needing 20 more.  On the 4th 14 more were added.  I counted none during a half hour watch on Sept 5 in between rain events.  Time is running out.  On the 6th I added just 3 more, leaving a deficit of 3.  I skipped the 7th due to strong unfavorable winds.  The season is running out.
Then came today.  To my delighted surprise, I was again joined by Kathy Wheeler and Randy Langer.  In fact, the were there before me.  Nobody looks for nighthawks this late in the season but there they were.  Deluxe chocolate candy bars were distributed to one and all.  At 5:40 the first bird of the day appeared, followed over the next hour by 6 more.  So that goal is achieved but the season continues.  If Concord sticks it out until 10 Sept then Franklin surely must do likewise.
Tomorrow's weather looks favorable so more nighthawks will be added to  the year list.
