Hey folks,
Big shout out thank you to David Massa, Neil Riley, and Kathleen Lojuidace for helping out Sunday at Reist. Over 60 Union College Students, and a dozen faculty/staff, joined us for a walk around the Reist Sanctuary. we Divided into 4 groups, staggered our start, and heading off in opposite directions on the loop to avoid terrorizing the local denizens.
Everyone seemed to have a great time although as you know, the level of interest fluctuates a lot among the students. Typically, the sanctuary was not overly birdy, but the typical resident species made appearances.
The mushrooms were abundant with several varieties photographed and identified with “I Naturalist”. I was a bit concerned when we found a large fresh growth of “Chicken of the Woods” and two young men tore off a hunk and ate it.. just to see what would happen! I am still waiting to hear if they are okay. (I really want to see their entrance exam scores!).
We had a Warbling Vireo come in close and give us a look and a Broadwing Hawk in a hurry to get away from us. it was overall a nice day for a walk.
thanks again to those who helped.
Karen and I will be in Seattle through the 18 th. John Gansfuss and San Leonard are organizing next weekends trail cleanup day at Reist . If you can help, please contact them ASAP.
Thanks all
Happy Birding
