Subject: [pen-bird] Baird's Sandpiper and other recent sightings
Today, a Baird's Sandpiper was with Western and Least Sandpipers viewed from the trail at the Ravenswood Salt Ponds R1/R2. The shorebirds had come in from the bayduring a high tide. Sightings the last few days. An earlier visit to the Ravenswood Salt Pond SF2, there was a Wilson's Phalarope. Wilson's Phalarope is a rare-uncommonmigrant in the county. Elegant and Forster's Terns were in quite a stir, when a juvenile Parasitic Jaeger came in off the bay to the roosting terns on the mudflats. This timeof year is when the Parasitic Jaegers do come into San Francisco Bay looking for terns. They will come in as far south into the bay at Coyote Point. Lingering on the late sideon the bay was a juvenile Least Tern being fed on the shell bar at Bair Island at the mouth of Steinberger Slough on the 3rd.  A southbound Purple Martin was noted during a skywatch at home in Redwood Shores.
