Not a rare bird, but 10 Osprey at Ocean Park near Lompoc, this morning, was notable. At one point, there were nine on the railroad trestle and one was flying over the water to the east. They were all flushed a minute or so later by a train.
Large numbers remained throughout my visit, and I later saw two at Surf Beach. These could've been birds that were at the estuary earlier.
I confirmed only one juvenile in the group.
A nice group of 60 or so swallows was also hanging around, but I couldn't confirm a Bank. Most were Barn Swallows, with a sizable minority of Trees and a couple of Cliffs.
There were good numbers of peeps and Semipalmated Plovers in mudflats on the north side of the estuary, with some too far to identify reliably. All the ones I saw well were Leasts.
Finally, besides a small number of Mallards, the only ducks in the estuary were a single Red-breasted Merganser and a 29 Surf Scoters.
