August is the preview month for the turkey vultures heading south to
their wintering grounds, whether in California, or Central and South
America. September should be an interesting month of groups gradually
winging their way down along the central and west coast. Thanks to
everyone for the great reports, nothing from ebird this time, all
local.
AUGUST
03 – One each on I-5 mp 250/270, Whatcom County.
05 – Fifteen taking turns feeding on a deer carcas w/ravens on west
side of Dungeness River west of Sequim, Clallam County.
06 – One each on I-5 mp 255, Bellingham and mp 209; one on the
Jefferson side of the Hood Canal Bridge at 21:49, Kitsap County.
12 – One turkey vulture over Snoqualmie Ridge Golf Course at 14:04,
King County; Eight seen at Dugualla Bay soaring low over a field at
14:02, Island C.
15 – Two seen over the Snoqualmie Ridge Golf Course at 14:17.
17 – Three over High Cedars Golf Course at 13:32.
20 – One flyingover Paradise Bay north of Hood Canal Bridge at 15:30.

22 – Two over Belfair at 12:03, Mason County.
23 – One turkey vulture over Belfair at 12:00.
24 – One cirling over Bothell at 11:30, King County; one at Belfair at 11:49.
25 – 3 or 4 between Mt. Vernon/Bellingham, seen regularly, Skagit
County; one at Belfair at 14:45.
26 – One flying between Mt. Erie/Sugarloaf, Fidalgo Island, heading
south, Skagit County.
27 – Two over Carnation Rd/Sykes Lake, Carnation at 16:30; one at
Chinook Bend, Carnation at 1635, King County.
28 – Two over Belfair at 14:40.
29 – One over Belfair at 11:05.
30 – Five over Theyler Wetlands at 13:00, Mason County.
31 -- One between Duvall and Monroe, King/Snohomish Counties; one
over Mud Bay, Olympia at 10:45, Thurston County; six hanging out in
treetops on the bank of Lake Cortez, Malaga; later, 21 turkey vultures
flying over the orchard in Malaga, Chelan County.
