You never know what the day will bring. Eighteen bird species caught today
including three new species for the season - Song Sparrow, Northern
Waterthrush, and a Great-crested Flycatcher.
*38 New Banded Birds*
Wilson's Warbler- 14
Yellow Warbler- 1
Orange-crowned Warbler- 1
MacGillivray's Warbler- 1
Northern Waterthrush- 1
N. House Wren- 4
Western Wood-Pewee- 2
Great-crested Flycatcher- 1 (First of the year)
Red-breasted Nuthatch- 1
Lincoln's Sparrow- 4
House Finch- 1
Song Sparrow- 1
Yellow-breasted Chat- 2
Swainson's Thrush- 1
Gray Catbird- 2
Brown Thrasher- 1

*3 Recaptures- 2 gained weight with Chat staying the same wt.*
Wilson's Warbler
Cassin's Vireo
Yellow-breasted Chat

*1 Returning- bird banded in a different season*
Female American Robin - originally banded this spring in May

The banding station will be open tomorrow through Saturday from sunrise

I was curious about the recaptures we have been catching. I sorted all the
Wilson's Warblers recaptured these last 2 weeks. Thirteen individuals were
recaptured out of 156 Wilson's Warblers banded. Recaptures included 4
hatching females, 8 hatching year males and an adult male. Average mass
gain was .38 grams. Days between recapture and original banding was 1-3
days. Most of the birds are moving south.
