Blendon Woods
Connecticut warbler, female.  Front loop of golden rod trail.  First saw her with a song sparrow and 2 house wrens in a tree next to the trail.  After about a minute, the group moved to the next tree along the path.  Then they moved further down the trail into the goldenrod.  I lost track of her, but then noticed the house wrens 20 feet down the trail, and Followed them and again got sight of the Conn Warbler.  Watched her move one more time until she got to the tree line.

Subject: Shorebirds

I am getting shorebird envy…… our habitat has gotten good with the rain finally stopping!
The Great Miami at Lost Bridge looks super! But only Killdeer. Sigh….. I did pick up a
Sanderling here. 214 I think now for my Hamilton big year. I’ll check ebird again.

The bean field is a long walk in, it’s at Armleder. It’s been flooded all summer. All our rain!
I am waiting for needed year bird species there! At least shorebirds to look at when I
Do hit here.

Thoughts on why Hamilton doesn’t get many shorebirds? No industry retention ponds?
I give up trying to figure it out…..

I have been hitting other counties just to see shorebirds! Preble and Montgomery mainly.

Tonight looks like a good migrant flight. I'll be out for a few hours looking for passerines.

Good birding all.

Counted 45 Common Nighthawks hunting over a shopping plaza in southern Clintonville, Columbus just now. Mosquitos here are worse than in my memory with all the rain, floods, derechos, etc. Fatten up!

Subject: Wilderness Rd this afternoon

This afternoon, David Wiesenberg and I were at Wilderness Rd south of
Blatchleyville (Wayne Co.) and spotted 11 species of shorebirds. A few were
seen along the road at the west shore of the big lake, but nearly all were
seen by walking back the lane next to the farm house, past the trees, and
then hiking back through high weeds to the mudflats. The previously
reported red knot was seen well at close range, as well as a buff-breasted
sandpiper. Species seen and estimated numbers were:
Am golden plover - 1
Killdeer - 50+
Semipalmated plover - 1
Greater yellowlegs - 5
Lesser yellowlegs - 15
Red knot - 1
Least sandpiper - 3
Baird's sandpiper - 3
Pectoral sandpiper - 5
Stilt sandpiper - 7
Buff-breasted sandpiper - 1
