Visitors: Big thanks to Mike J, Jaron, Larry, Hugh, Liz and Mike StP for some good spotting of the many raptors seen today. Good to see Lou, Toni and Jim again on the Tower. Thanks to Toni for adopting a Sharp-shinned Hawk. Also good to see Olga, Roland and Nurlan on the Tower. It was good to meet Matt, Reehka and Shuthadeep, Tarrah and Justin and many other visitors who showed an interest in the Hawk Watch.
Weather: Starting cool with clear sky, increasing cloud over day. Temperature started at 18c rising to 25c. Moderate north wind, our favourite direction
Raptor Observations: First good Broad-winged Hawk movement of the season, topping the list with 544 seen, mid height in clear skies. Followed by 182 Sharp-shinned Hawk and 117 American Kestrel. Good diversity with 11 raptor species seen.
Non-raptor Observations: Common Nighthawks and Sandhill Cranes were good to see, as were the continuing Red-headed Woodpeckers. New birds for the season included Red-breasted Nuthatch and American Wigeon. Otherwise diversity a bit lower with 56 species seen. Good movement of Monarchs with 59 passing. Predictions: The wind tomorrow starts in the north east then veering to east and then east south east. Thankfully it will remain cooler.
