Manhattan, N.Y. City - into Sunday, September 6th -
On Saturday, a different Dickcissel from the individual found on Governors Island the same day was seen at Inwood Hill Park. That latter park has occasionally hosted that species in the past, sometimes much later in past years, even to the C.B.C. season and later. Noting birds of this past week, on Sept. 1st at Governors Island, photos taken of a tanager showed it to be a Summer Tanager, a first of the southbound season for this county.
Among arrivals this weekend, seen both Saturday and Sunday, have included small numbers of Purple Finches, and slightly more of Red-breasted Nuthatches, both these species noted at several sites in Manhattan including in Central Park, and for 2 other islands of the county, at Governors and Randalls Islands.
Sunday, Sept. 6 saw more waterfowl at Central Park, with 2 Green-winged Teals again back at The Pool in that parks n-w sector, and with ongoing double-digit numbers of N. Shovelers, as well as other typical duckage there including Wood Ducks. Solitary and Spotted Sandpipers also continued at Central Park, as well as other locations in Manhattan and elsewhere in the county. Flycatcher diversity continues at a good rate with up to 8 species of flycatchers for this weekend, which includes all of those 8 species within Central Park, some Empidonax having given calls to help confirm ID, as has also been noted elsewhere in the county in recent days.
Central Park again had at least 24 species of migratory warbler species, as seen all around the park by large numbers of observers and photographers out at all hours.
