This afternoon, David Wiesenberg and I were at Wilderness Rd south of Blatchleyville (Wayne Co.) and spotted 11 species of shorebirds. A few were seen along the road at the west shore of the big lake, but nearly all were seen by walking back the lane next to the farm house, past the trees, and then hiking back through high weeds to the mudflats. The previously reported red knot was seen well at close range, as well as a buff-breasted sandpiper. Species seen and estimated numbers were: Am golden plover - 1 Killdeer - 50+ Semipalmated plover - 1 Greater yellowlegs - 5 Lesser yellowlegs - 15 Red knot - 1 Least sandpiper - 3 Baird's sandpiper - 3 Pectoral sandpiper - 5 Stilt sandpiper - 7 Buff-breasted sandpiper - 1
