Costa's Hummingbird (Calypte costae) (1)
- Reported Sep 04, 2026 14:30 by Pamela Warren
- HSLOCGPW, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.6861285&<ll...>,-120.6861285 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S389919317 - Comments: "Female or immature with white eyebrow line, dark auricular, beaded coloration on chin, tiny size relative to Anna's in the yard, small compact body. My guess is this may be a repeat female that we get at this same tree every year. Same behavior, same overall body patterns."
Ridgway's Rail (Rallus obsoletus) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Sep 04, 2026 09:30 by Petra Clayton
- Laguna Lake, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.6903817&<ll...>,-120.6903817 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S389734009 - Media: 1 Video, 20 Photos
- Comments: "Continuing since 8/20/26 (Herb Elliott): ebird.org/checklist/S385254200 Larger than nearby Common Gallinule and almost as large as the nearby Green Heron, but definitely bigger than a Virginia Rail.
Overall cinnamon-colored with darker spots on the upper back and uniformly darker on the lower back; short, pale supercilium; chin, upper throat and underparts appeared to be pale; long, slightly decurved bill bill with a thick base, orange on the lower mandible and dark on the upper mandible; long orangy legs. As the rail took off, the stretched wing showed a white leading edge."
Ridgway's Rail (Rallus obsoletus) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Sep 04, 2026 08:38 by Herb Elliott
- Laguna Lake, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.6903817&<ll...>,-120.6903817 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S389712602 - Media: 15 Photos
- Comments: "The Ridgway's Rail I first observed on 20 August 2026 (https://ebird.org/checklist/S385254200) reappeared this morning near its original location. When it emerged from the reeds into the open, it was persistently harassed by two Green Herons and a Common Gallinule, which greatly limited its time in the open. It attempted to walk away on several occasions, but the harassment continued. It eventually made a short, awkward flight across the stream and did not reappear for the rest of my visit."
