I’m Kianna, this seasons bird bander at Chadron State Park! While the wind and heat were not on our side, this first week (8/28-9/5) has already brought in some migrants along with plenty of residents! Here are this weeks totals:
Brown Thrasher - 1
Northern House Wren - 5
American Robin - 3
Least Flycatcher - 2
Western Wood-Pewee - 3
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - 3
Wilson’s Warbler - 2
Black-capped Chickadee - 1
Cassin’s Vireo - 4
Hammond’s Flycatcher - 2
Western Tanager - 2
Chipping Sparrow - 2
Red-breasted Nuthatch - 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler (Audubon’s) - 1
Recaptures
Red-breasted Nuthatch - 1 (Banded last year at this station)
Northern House Wren - 1
Brown Thrasher - 1
Hammond’s Flycatcher - 1
The station will be open next week Tuesday-Saturday (weather permitting) and is located at the Sawmill Shelter. With the temps looking slightly cooler, I'm excited to see what comes of it! Come on out and see some birds with me!
