Out at our place near Bayview, ID (Kootenai Co.) the past couple of days (3-4 Sept.'26), we were treated to continuing CANYON and ROCK WRENs, both of which are tough in the county. At least one Rock Wren was seen several times on Cape Horn Rd up on "The Slide" (~1 mile east of town) enjoying its preferred habitat of concrete highway barriers. In addition, a Canyon Wren has seemed to set up shop again this year in its preferred habitat under our old cabin where he spent a good portion of the winter last year. Also continuing to grace Cape Horn road is at least one remaining family group (6) of LEWIS'S WOODPECKERs, but not sure how long these beauts will stay as numbers are already dwindling. Lastly besides the normal passerine migrants (flycatchers, vireos, warblers, tanagers,.), we also had the first AMERICAN HERRING GULL for the season, a first year bird, so times are a changing.
