Weather: Overnight thunderstorms and showers ended with the sky partially clearing by the start time of the count. Becoming overcast again as rain went west, then rapid clearing in the afternoon. A bit cool with a nice breeze in the morning, becoming quite hot in the late afternoon. The wind was light from the southwest. Overall a pleasant day except for the final few hours.
Raptor Observations: Ospreys were the primary migrant again, picking up nicely in the afternoon for a total of 15. Two adult Broad-winged Hawks migrated. An immature Red-shouldered Hawk also migrated high overhead with an Osprey. Good conditions for local raptors to be active. A Black Vulture with yellow patagial tag was too high to read.
Non-raptor Observations: Common Nighthawk, 8 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, 2 Common Ravens, 4 Purple Martins, 4 Bobolinks, 20 Brown-headed Cowbirds, good number of Common Green Darners plus some Black Saddlebags and Wandering Gliders, Pipevine Swallowtail, Eastern Comma, Painted Lady, Red Admiral, 2 monarchs. https://ebird.org/checklist/S389465941
Predictions: TOMORROW: Partly cloudy. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High 87F. Winds NW at 5-10mph. Similar to today but with a more favorable wind direction. I would expect similar or slightly better results than today.
SATURDAY: Intervals of clouds and sun. High around 80F. Winds N at 5-10mph. A favorable wind should encourage some migration.
