Folks began reportings nighthawk groups in the greater Concord area about 4 PM. I was up on the garage roof by 5 PM to witness an incredible flight for September 3rd. We average about 100 birds on this date, so this evening was extraordinary. The conditions were great with a mild breeze from the south and the temp in the mid-70s . The insect hatch must have been spectacular, as there were eleven Ring-billed Gulls hawking insects, as well. Season total now at 4,561. Average for the previous 14 years is 4,790.
