I made a second attempt this summer to turn up a Lesser Nighthawk at this location. NO luck again this morning, but I enjoyed watching the sun rise and the Lake come to life as the sky lightened.
I also tried for Nighthawks at the Dune pond on the evening of August 30. NO luck there either, though there was a lot of activity over the pond and th sunset was beautiful.
Florence SanchezPS--I recommend checking out the LLC overflow pond along Calle Real. The water is getting quite low and it was full of Great Egrets this morning (25 of them, plus a few Snowies). If the water lever continues to drop, it could be a good place for interesting shorebirds. (I used to get Pectoral Sandpipers there many years ago.). There is adequate space by the eucalyptus trees to pull off Calle Real and park on the dirt.
