There was a definite increase in activity this morning in our yard, but no good photos.
I did identify a Chestnut-sided Warbler and a Black-throated Green Warbler. We see quite a few of the latter during fall migration.
I looked at my flickr site photos from last year and both warbler activity and diversity notably increased around Sept 10th, here in Kirksville, and continued through mid-October.
Because I often visit Hawk Ridge in Duluth, MN for the fall hawk migration, I start checking the daily hawk reports: https://hawkcount.org/ The website reports counts from hawk migration sites around the country and you can look at previous years and months.
Usually around the 3rd week of September, depending on the weather, there’s a large movement of Broad-winged Hawks.
I’ve also started visiting Canal Park Point along the south edge of Lake Superior when I’m there, which turns out to be a pretty good location for fall migrants and sometimes, Merlins. On Aug 27, there were reports of lots of warblers on eBird at the Park Point Trail, which may have been the beginning of their fall migration from Canada.
Keep an eye out at your favorite spots. It’s still early, but they’re on the way!
