This is a lovely time of year to spend a few minutes at the Lucerne Overlook looking down at Half Seal Cove This view point is accessed from Lucerne Rd in Cayucos. After years of visiting this favorite location I just learned the name of this secluded little jewel!
I stopped by there this morning and was treated to very large numbers of seabirds roosting tightly in the cove. Among them were large numbers of various ages of Brown Pelicans, Double-crested and Brandt's Cormorants, Western, Hermann's and California gulls. Scampering along on the shore were 14 Black Turnstones and a Spotted Sandpiper to add to the fun. Off shore the seabirds were busy circling and diving as they went about their the morning activities.
