I saw one TUVU while driving in the area around the East 90 in
Skagit County
yesterday. It was not "obviously travelling" but rather seemed to be
soaring
looking for carrion. I do not consider TUVU sightings to be atl all
uncommon
here in Skagit County and I frequently see them (pretty much all year
long?)
at just about all locations where I am birding or driving in Skagit County,
Whatcom County, and B.C.
Although I/we don't see them "every time we go out" or even "every day"
(from our house which is up on a hill) ... I just don't consider them
particularly
unusual.
I know that vultures migrate - I've seen them in migration in
Veracruz - I also
think that just because we see a TUVU here in Skagit in the fall doesn't
make it
certain that it is migrating. Perhaps there are some individuals who
are more
"resident" ... or perhaps some individuals that move North and South with
the seasons but don't go long distances? And others that do go long?
I'm sure you know more about TUVU behavior than I do - I'm just reporting
what I see and what behaviors -seem- to be exhibited.
