Ran back down to Killarney Lake Rd (Kootenai Co., ID) yesterday afternoon (Mon., 31 Aug'26) to check the shorebird situation as the wetlands along the road have been the hotspot for us locally. The place is still hapnin' with nine (9) species of shorebird and eBird filter busting numbers for a few. The best bird was a continuing STILT SANDPIPER with a couple of BAIRD'S (2), a SOLITARY, and a PECTORAL SANDPIPER also notable species. What was really impressive though was the number of WILSON'S SNIPE, a hand counted forty-one (41), which I think is the entire North Idaho population, and nary a dowitcher among them. Also fun were the conservative counts of KILLDEER (25+) and LESSER YELLOWLEGS (15+) giving nearly a hundred (~100) individual shorebirds to pick through - my scoping eye is shot. I also ran over to nearby Canyon Marsh as it can be productive, but not so much today though did pick up two (2) more BAIRD'S SANDPIPERs.
