This year at English Boom on the north end of Camano Island martins laid eggs in twenty nests in June. Several days of unfavorable weather at the end of June and first few days of July caused five of those nests to fail, and the eggs or newly hatched young disappeared. Fortunately we found no dead adults. By the middle of July three of the five failed nests had new eggs. No way to know with certainty if the same pairs renested, since none of the birds are banded, but we think they most likely are the same pairs, since all attending birds are full after second year adults, which ordinarily would not be nesting so late. Thursday we observed adults still feeding young at all three of these second attempts.
