This morning I had a brief look at an adult American Goshawk flying
relatively low through the power-line right-of-way on my farm. It was a
large accipiter (though I don’t think we’re supposed to call them that
anymore…) flapping steadily — not the flap flap glide of Cooper’s — with
relatively long, pointed wings, and the underside appeared uniformly white
or light grey. I have daily red-tails hunting from the transmission tower,
so I have a relatively objective basis for judging size in this location.
