Subject: [LACoBirds] Northern Waterthrush along Little Rock Creek
Birders,

A Northern Waterthrush was foraging along the edge of Little Rock Creek
north of Mt. Emma Rd.this morning (30 August). See eBird list here:
https://ebird.org/atlascalifornia/checklist/S388374899

This is NOT the upper stretch of Little Rock Creek near the Little Rock
Reservoir Dam (where many of you saw the Brown-crested Flycatchers a few
weeks ago). Rather, it is downstream (north) of Mt. Emma Rd. Unless you
have a monster truck and enjoy destroying streambottom habitat you will
need to park a short ways below Mt. Emma Rd, and walk down the dry cobble
streambed until you reach the obvious riparian forest. Take the dirt road
on the east side of the creek bottom about 250 yards and park. [Be VERY
careful when turning into and out of this dirt road from/to Mt. Emma Rd. as
the latter is a favorite of crazy redneck speedsters.] After parking it is
another 0.3 mi. to reach the main riparian zone.

The waterthrush was about halfway down the riparian zone where there is a
concrete check dam -- it was along the creek in the first 50 feet or so
above the dam. Coordinates for this spot are: 34 30' 43.42" N -118 01'
05.52"W
Not too many other migrants there this morning, but it's always an
interesting spot.
