Date: 8/30/26 9:19 am From: Peter Burke <peterburke...> Subject: [cobirds] COBC and eBird
COBirders,
An added benefit from CFO's annual Colorado Birding Challenge
<https://www.cobirds.org/cobc> is the data we generate by reporting our
sightings using eBird. Documenting the status and distribution of birds
throughout the state benefits researchers, conservation efforts and
government. Last year's COBC generated over 400 eBird checklists...that
would be enough to elevate us to #4 on the list below!

Note that Colorado is ranked #5 for the number of eBird checklists
submitted this month in spite of being ranked 20th by population and 9th by
number of bird species (per official state bird checklist totals according
to an AI bot), so coming in 5th for eBird checklists is noteworthy. Shoutout
to Ted Floyd!
*You can contribute to this year's COBC!*
1. Form a team with one or more friends and register in one of the five
COBC categories by visiting the COBC Campaign Page
<https://charity.pledgeit.org/2026COBC> and clicking "Register." New this
year is the Big Sit category where you can choose an area like Barr Lake or
even your backyard and keep eBird checklists throughout the day!
2. Support a team with a donation or pledge by visiting the COBC Campaign
Page <https://charity.pledgeit.org/2026COBC> and clicking "Donate." You
have the option of contributing to the COBC in general, or selecting a
specific team or teams from the drop down menu!
*Donations to the COBC will be matched 100% thanks to the generosity of a
CFO member who provided a challenge grant to CFO of up to $10,000! Help us
maximize this gift by donating today!*
Good birding,
Peter Burke
