29 August 2026 - A Western and a Clark's Grebe were paired up in the
lagoon at the mouth of the Garcia River this morning. Nice side-by-side
comparison of the two species; the bright yellow bill of the Clark's
contrasted strongly with the dull greenish yellow bill of the Western,
and the different pattern of the black stripe up the back of their necks
was obvious.
Another Clark's was in the lagoon of the Navarro River, briefly
associating with a Red-throated Loon.
There was an exciting feeding frenzy just off the rocks at Lighthouse
Point with a large number of Brown Pelicans, being harassed by large
numbers of Heermann's Gulls, with several other species as well. My
hopes for a Booby or Jaeger were unrequited.
