Subject: [cayugabirds-l] Aug 27 Thursday Birding Meetup Recap and Next Week Plans
We all know that teens love hanging out at the park. So, we spent our
Thursday Birding Meetup yesterday hanging out with teen birds at Stewart
Park. Young birds were everywhere--cormorants, sapsucker, mockingbird,
northern yellow warbler, mallards, hooded mergansers, wood ducks, green
heron, kingfisher and gull. The 18 of us enjoyed the juveniles who were
figuring who they are and how to act in the world. We were treated to a
closer than usual view of an osprey perched on a willow branch right above
us, giving us lovely profile view and a "you lookin' at me?" stare. We saw
26 species in total including 125 cormorants. It was a banner morning for
our photographers so there are more photos in this post than usual to
showcase all those juvies and that imperial osprey. Enjoy their work!
Several of us gathered at Modern Ohana for breakfast as we dreamed up new
birding trips.
Want to join us next week? Gather with us on September 3 at 7:00 am at the
new Three Falls Park (formerly Camp Barton and Frontenac Park) on Cayuga
Lake. Directions from Ithaca: Take Route 89 north along the lake. Turn
right on to Frontenac Road North (just north of the bridge). Park along the
road in the park.
