Hadn't posted in a minute, so thought I'd drop a line about shorebird migration in North Idaho. While we don't have much in the way of good shorebird habitat in Kootenai County (ID), I checked along Killarney Lake Rd yesterday afternoon (Weds., 26 Aug'26) based on advice from a couple of folks that the drying up wetlands along the road was active. Turns out the spot was still very active as I had ten (10) species of shorebirds at this spot including a LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, both GREATER (3) and LESSER YELLOWLEGs (10+) as well as SOLITARY (1), PECTORAL (2+), LEAST (3), and WESTERN SANDPIPERs (2). These guys also had Stilt and Baird's Sandpipers there earlier in the week, so definitely worth a check. In addition to the shorebird show along the access road, also had a real nice adult CASPIAN TERN at the boat launch on Killarney Lake proper. Killarney Lake is located south of I-90 and west of ID HW 3; access road junction is ~5 miles south of the I-90 exit. If you have any questions or would like more information, please let me know.
