I had time for a fairly short visit this morning. I did not find all the birds reported yesterday but there still was a large number of (mostly Western) Sandpipers working the areas near the broken bridge. Unfortunately the flock was very flighty this morning and portions of it were working up and down the stream channels, often below the tops of the surrounding banks. I'm sure I saw perhaps only half of all the birds that were present.
No rarities were found, but I did note that among the 15 or so juvenile Red-necked Phalaropes, there were at least 2 adults in basic plumage. I also spotted two Dowitchers upstream in a channel. Gold patterns on the tertials of one bird indicated juvenile Short-billed Dowitcher. Markings were not clear on the second bird but when they flew upstream together, both appeared to be making the L. Yellowlegs-like Tu-tu call.
I'm wondering if this big influx of small shorebirds here comes from birds previously at the drying-up Area K?
I did not see the Neotropic Cormorant while I was there.
