Hi birders, I've had a few subtle signs of land bird movement over the past few days at the Museum of Natural History: an adult male Western Tanager in a holly-leaf cherry tree and a Black-throated Gray Warbler at the fountain in the MacVeagh House garden. On Sunday at home, two Wilson's Warblers were bathing together in my birdbath (a species I rarely see otherwise), joined later by three Orange-crowned Warblers together. Adult male Hooded Orioles have mostly moved out, but immatures/females are still abundant, as are Allen's and Anna's hummingbirds at the fountain--sometimes six or eight at a time in the very early mornings. Cliff Swallows are mostly gone now except for some family groups chattering while they forage in the early evening.
Bravely facing the forecast heat ahead but so ready for autumn's cooler days and interesting migrant birds moving through!
