It turned into a clear day after all here in sunny Franklin. But with unfavorable NW winds, nighthawks were not moving. Even after the winds turned calm sometime after 6 they would not budge. The air was full of dragonflies meaning plenty of food around but still nighthawks could not be coaxed off their roost.
Yesterday Zeke mentioned the abundance of Chimney Swifts in Concord. We get a small handfull nearly daily migrating down the river. Notice they cleared out of Laconia by late July yet there are plenty to be had in Portsmouth and Concord for example. Do they vacate the smaller cities in favor of bigger cities to congregate before migration?
Tomorrow's forecast looks more favorable.
