Many of you may remember Bill Scheible. He moved to Portland, Oregon several years ago to be closer to his family.
He was an active member of the IOU while he lived here. His humor, knowledge and sharp hearing made him a fun person to bird with. He led field trips and co-led a trip to Southern California with Jim Fuller. He was passionate in supporting the Iowa Young Birders.
He traveled extensively when he was a medical school professor. When he became a birder, travel took on a whole new layer of fun and excitement. I can think of 7 countries he had birded extensively in. Perhaps his most meaningful trip was when he and a group of friends went to Micronesia. They visited Tinian. This small island had a large airfield during WWII, and Bill was very interested to see the base his father had flown from during the war.
Bill had been in failing health for several years, and it is with great sadness that I’m writing to let you know that he has passed away.
