Subject: [sbcobirding] COPR Beaches Aug 14 & 16
I have checked the beaches on the above dates and found plenty of shorebirds, but nothing new.  Numbers of various species are about the same as  they have been for awhile, though short-billed Dowitchers have not been present for the past week or so.
Nick recently commented to me at Area K that juvenile shorebird migration seems to be late this year, and from what I've seen at Coal Oil Point, I would agree.  What I have been seeing are returning (molting) adults.
There continues to be a single Forester's Tern basic adult in the Elegant-Royal Tern flock, though this morning, it was a different bird than the one I've been seeing before.

(PS--I checked for the Neotropic Cormorant at Deverux today and found it perching in the bare tree where it often sits.  The tree is just downstream from the parking area at the broken bridge, but best seen from the Nature Center Parking Lot across the road.)
