Semipalmated Sandpiper (Calidris pusilla) (1)

- Ocean Beach Park and Santa Ynez River Estuary, Santa Barbara, California

Marbled Murrelet (Brachyramphus marmoratus) (3)
- Reported Aug 14, 2026 08:00 by Noah Gaines
- Jalama Beach County Park, Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.5014432&<ll...>,-120.5014432
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S383359462
- Comments: "I saw a single of a murrelet last night when the light was bad. This morning I found 3. Yesterday the bird was to the right of the creek mouth, today they were to the L. They stayed between the waves and the kelp. They were mostly bobbing around but started diving a bit later. They were near some PALOs for size comparison. I was able to see distinct white on the bottoms of the loons so this made me feel more confident in the dark coloration of these birds (that it was not just bad light).

These Alcids were very small with short beaks, no neck, chunky body and short tails and appeared all dark. I have seen Marbled Murrelet before but not recently. I am not 100% on this ID, but fairly certain. I did not see any adult Murres in the area. I was viewing through binoculars and not a scope."
