There is another access to shorebird habitat on the northeast corner of Crockett Lake. Park at the gravel pullout between the two borrow pit ponds on the south (Admiralty Inlet) side of Highway 20. Look across the road for a 1foot tall concrete monument. The faint trail begins near the monument and winds around ponds and marsh. This time of year with our dry summer you may be able to walk out there without knee boots. The canal and mudflats there can be very productive during shorebird migration. When the vegetation ends, use extreme caution as the mud is very deep on the flats.
