Also Red Crossbills in my yard. Merlin has been reporting them for a week now, but today was the first day I’ve heard them. Now I need to see them, but our evergreens are loaded with cones, so I’m sure they’ll make themselves known!

We had a small flock of Red Crossbills in our yard this week. I heard them on Merlin a few days ago and thought it must be a mistake. Then I saw one preening high up in the fir trees after hearing them again yesterday. Even better, about 3 of them landed in our fountain about 3 feet from where I was sitting. Looked like one male with more red and two females or fledglings. So exciting to see them close up.

Typically only see yellow warblers and rufous hummingbirds in the yard during migration. The hummingbirds arrived a couple of days ago and this morning yellow warblers were in the yard.
