I saw what I call the Patriarch of my summer Hooded Oriole family this morning drinking out of one of my hummingbird feeders. I hadn't seen him in a number of days.A few of the juveniles showed up at different times to do their drinking.Based on prior years, they will be leaving soon. 🙁Dawn BeattieMorro Bay

Though they summer in my neighborhood near palms, I never see more than 2-3 at once feeding on plant nectar or berries in my yard. Today a 1 pm, when most birds are resting, 5 female Hooded Orioles all at once hit my hanging bird bath under the Prunus hedge. They Quickly bathed, and hit the top branches where remaining fruits are. Could they be rallying to fly south...? Have not seen a male for over a week, when another several frantically combed through the garden for insects, and were gone the next morning.
