They are probably not conclusive as to the ID, as the details on the tail feathers are not clear enough and the photos are not very sharp. I am calling it an Allen’s hummingbird based on the fact that my Merlin app was picking up the vocalization of an Allen’s at the same time as I was photographing the bird."

- Comments: "Photos of the ALHU are being submitted, but they are probably not conclusive. I am suggesting that it is an ALHU based on the the vocalization that the Merlin app picked up as I was observing and photographing the bird."

Seen with Ann Stockert this morning in the big tidal pond. I only saw one individual though she said there were two before I got there. Slightly smaller than nearby Western Sandpipers with a shorter straighter bill. Brown scaled back instead of rufous. Brown wash on front. Black legs."

Continuing bird found by Herb this morning. This bird was seen initially resting on the edge of the Tern flock, and I was able to note the large size of this bird compared to the terns, squat and lengthy structure, overall black and white plumage, bright-colored legs, dark eye, and massive thick and laterally-compressed dark bill with the basal third being brighter reddish orange and the lower mandible being longer than the upper mandible. Very soon after arriving and seeing this bird the tern flock flushed and this bird with it where I was able to see the pale underwings, dark rump and central rectricies, paler outer rectricies, and bounding emphatic nighthawk-like flight style of this species. After being flushed this bird was last seen flying off to the north towards Pismo. My views were decent but altogether brief, and I did not attempt (nor would I have had the chance) to photograph this bird…Herb should have photos."

- Comments: "The Black Skimmer was easily identified in a large flock of about 1200 elegant terns by its striking black and white plumage, along with its bright orange-red legs, and distinctive orange and black bill."

One bird was seen briefly but well with a flock in the canopy on the Norswing drive side south of the main entrance. This was a large, very dull Orange-crowned that was overall a dull olive color, with a large thick-based bill, dark eye, greener upper and slightly paler lower eye arcs, a large head with a faint veiled/hooded appearance, a streaked breast almost appearing vested, dull legs and feet, a relatively slim build and medium-length tail, and strongly and extensively streaked undertail coverts. This bird was silent. We were not able to photograph this bird unfortunately."
