We had a small flock of Red Crossbills in our yard this week. I heard them
on Merlin a few days ago and thought it must be a mistake. Then I saw one
preening high up in the fir trees after hearing them again yesterday. Even
better, about 3 of them landed in our fountain about 3 feet from where I
was sitting. Looked like one male with more red and two females or
fledglings. So exciting to see them close up.

I'm in Stanwood, by the way.
