Subject: [nysbirds-l] Central Park, NYC - warbler sightings by Aug. 11th
Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City -
to Tuesday, August 11th -

Returning southbound warbler species showing by Tuesday, August 11th at Central Park, in three days beginning Aug. 9th, have included -
Ovenbird
Louisiana Waterthrush
Northern Waterthrush
Worm-eating Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler
Blue-winged Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
Mourning Warbler
Hooded Warbler
Canada Warbler
American Redstart
Blackburnian Warbler
Cerulean Warbler
Northern Parula
Magnolia Warbler
Bay-breasted Warbler
Pine Warbler
Northern Yellow Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler
Prairie Warbler
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Canada Warbler

Many of the above warbler species were seen in the multiple over all of the park, very few were represented by just one individual bird. The latter situation might be noted of the Cerulean, and also for Mourning Warbler, thus far this week starting on Sunday. At least 85 species of birds were noted from Central Park, and likely still-more species may have been present.
-None- of the above Warbler spp. is -record early- and, it should be noted, eBird alone is not really an accurate measure of all historical records nor of the overall phenologies of birds in this area, over time, measured in more than a couple of decades on migration in this area, although it would be fairly good for the modest time that digital bird records have been kept, in comparison to all the many many more bird records detailing phenology for over a century now, in just this region.

Good August birding,

Tom Fiore
