A quieter place from what it's been for the past two days in that there were very few birds of any species singing this morning. I'm not sure if it's because it was overcast to start or what, but I didn't hear a Yellow Warbler or a Hutton's Vireo sing or call until the sun peeked out at 9 a.m., and then only briefly. No Red-eyed Vireo seen or heard at all. This is what I would normally expect at riparian habitats around here in August, but it was a little disappointing.
I then went to Devereux Slough, where I spent a lot of time looking on the through the Sandpiper flock that often hangs out on the mudflats upstream of the half bridge. Had great views of some 30+ birds, but they were all juvenile Westerns of Least Sandpipers. Sometimes there have been Semi-palmated Plovers with this flock, but not this morning. A lone Red-necked Phalarope was swimming further out in the estuary.
