We have Swallow-tailed Kites up here in NWA, including a record 4 that were photographed in one tree yesterday. I don't know if we re-found the 4 yesterday, but maybe, since there were so many kites in the air, high and low. Very exciting. Here is my report just for Joan and I posted to eBird this morning. Subject: Swallow-tailed Kite at Bald Knob NWR
Just heard from Glenn Wyatt that Kenny Nations found a Swallow-tailed Kite at the refuge this morning. If you go, check above the trees and the open fields. It was seen and photographed south of Huntsman Road flying above the trees. Glenn last saw it heading southeast along Overflow Creek Rd (about a mile south of Birch Pond).
The Mississippi Kites were quite numerous mid-day yesterday over the Central Agri Fields. We counted 28 but, as hard as we tried, we couldn't turn any into a Swallow-tailed. What a difference a day makes.
