Four birders tried our best to pick up a Semi-palmated Sandpiper at Area K last evening. At that time of day, the glare and heat-shimmer problems were much les than in the morning, but the birds had moved to the center of the wetland and were really distant. Even at high power, I had a prospect but just couldn't be sure it was a Semi-palm. One birder digi-scoped a possible bird but the photo was not sharp due to the distance and "possible" was the best adjective that could be applied.
Eventually the birds flew nearer the eastern end of the wetland where they were easier to see, but still no viable prospect for Semi-palm. I also did not see the bird that in the morning, appeared it could be a Baird's Sandpiper.
